Celebrating a decade of sustainable production in Addis Ababa
Our Addis & Ababa footwear are handmade in Ethiopia through our social venture in partnership with Pittards, world leaders in leather manufacture. The collection is handstitched, using locally sourced Wild Hides from small-scale, free-roaming herds and is independently verified for quality, materials & ethical production.
This year Vivobarefoot celebrate a decade of sustainable production in Ethiopia, supporting employment, education and community projects; vital steps on our journey towards a fully regenerative value chain in support of people and planet

WALK IN HER SHOES
In 2017 we launched a production line in Addis Ababa, training and employing local shoemakers, technicians and managers.
We invite you to walk in Mizan’s shoes, one of our first employees, who moved from the countryside, like many other young Ethiopians, in search for a better life.
We’re proud to work with Mizan and her colleagues providing skills development and happy and healthy employment.

WILD HIDE LEATHER
Leather is one of the oldest materials humans ever used for protecting our feet.
We work with Pittards – one of the biggest leather tanneries in Africa, they meet the highest standards and use their own water treatment plant, avoiding harmful chemicals.
All of our leather is Wild Hide – wild reared and community sourced, so that a healthy, natural eco-system and a healthy community can go hand in hand.

Our shoes carry the Proudly Made in Africa award, meaning the products were independently verified for their quality, materials and ethical production.
