secure fit

Light, sturdy shoe that fits well. The padding at the collar hugs the ankle in a comfy way.

Unfortunately, the toebox shape just isn't right for me, so the shoe's going back.

Great sole, but needs a bigger toebox

The FG has a lot going for it. The construction is rock solid, and like most VBFs, the sole is extremely well tuned. You can run with it to the trail, but it's a bit too thick for dedicated road running. However, once you get to the trail, the sole is near perfect. I feel every stick and stone, but none poke through or hurt in the least. The grip is also great; I've only slipped on muddy trails while at a steep gradient. Other than that, it handles dry trails, wet trails, rocks, and fell all really well. 30 miles in and there's no discernable wear.

What holds this shoe back are the lacing system and the narrow, low-volume toe box. The lacing system is hard to lock down, and then hard to loosen up. Worse is that the shoe runs quite narrow, and toe box is also not very high. Please make WIDE WIDE WIDE toe boxes. A 5 mile runs and it is somewhat uncomfortable with a few hot spots at the end, but longer runs result in rubbed off skin and blood when sockless. Given the shoes are narrow, getting them on with socks is hard. They do break in somewhat, but even now are a little hard to get in. I got the size I usually get in VBFs, but if I get these again, I will size up. They also include conventional laces, which I will try next.
