THE BEST PLACES TO TRAIL RUN

THE BEST PLACES TO TRAIL RUN

Vivobarefoot Ambassador and pro trail runner Jennifer Asp share her top trails to visit this month!

Åre, Sweden

Åre is my home town and favourite place to run (when it’s not snowing!). It has never-ending trails to run in, with everything from steep downhills to beautiful mountain top view.

During the summer months, you have everything you need for an outdoor adventure, with lakes to swim in, mountain biking and more.

If you are considering testing it out I highly recommend taking part in the FJÄLLMARATON in August. It has 6 races of varying distances and is perfect for all abilities – many families run together in the 7km distance, it’s a great day out.

Madeira, Portugal

Madeira. I fell in love with island the moment I stood on the trails. The diverse landscape and stunning views can’t be matched.

The trails are challenge but can be navigated by all, It’s an absolute must for keen trail runners and hikers.

Kenya

Running in Kenya has to be one of my most unique experiences I’ve had.  I was fortunate to spend 5 weeks.

It’s running culture is so different to everywhere else I’ve visited. They are humble supportive but  also determined in their training. Those competing at high level are so determined.

Running on the red, dry and dusty roads with children smiling and following you on their way to school was something I will always remember.

If you get the opportunity to visit the country I highly recommend it, you won’t regret it.

Åndalsnes, Norway

Running in Åndalsnes, Norway was very special. It’s located the mouth of the river Rauma, at the shores of the Romsdalsfjord, Norway where it has some of the most spectacular scenery in the entire country.

With stunning waterfalls, to the boats fishing in the fjords, the rugged mountains, to the Trollveggen (the Troll Wall) which is on the best cliff formations to run up because of the immense view at the top.

It really is one to consider because of the sheer beauty of the scenery around you.

Dolomites, Italy

Italy has over 300 official trail running destinations. I have managed to visit the country 7 times to run.

The dolomites is a great place to visit for a trail running holiday. It has a great network of trails as well a bounty of rifugi – or mountain inns - which act as refuelling stations for those travelling across the trails. They offer up great food, comfortable accommodations and warm showers for hut-to-hut running. Some even have well stocked bars!
