I'm usually a big fan of Vivo Barefoot, but this shoe doesn't live up to the usual standard. It looks cheap to start with and that alone is not worth the money. It's made of artificial leather, which feels like plastic and not the quality skin I know Vivobarefoot for in the past.
It's design is uncomfortable with too high an edge pressing into the outside of the foot - just beneath the bone of the ankle. Also the sole seems to be too narrow and not comfortable enough for the foot of a Scandinavian.
I have walked around 300 kilometers in them in different terrain hoping they would adjust to my foot. They don't.
But the worst thing is that my feet are completely soaked in sweat after wearing them for just an hour. It's like wearing rubber boots on a hike. There is no ventilation whatsoever, which is a BAD hiking problem....
I'm really disappointed because I have owned many Vivobarefoot shoes for several years and was looking forward to this serie since there is no decent barefoot footwear on the market for the Scandinavian winter climate.
To me it seems Vivebarefoot has adjusted their business strategy and started to produce in China using low quality materials to keep production costs down while raising the retail prize.
Back in the days you could buy a pair of Aquas produced in Britain of good quality skin for under a 100 dollars. I still have mine in fact and they are still doing their job. Now it's more money for less quality. What happened?
As an old and returning customer it seems that they are going for a mid end market within the barefoot community, which would make sense if prizes were kept low. But they are not. These shoes are expensive. It's the same prize rate as a good pair of Geox - which are much better as a shoe even though they are not barefoot.
I really want to give Vivobarefoot a chance since I like the company and what it stands for. But please give us a high quality shoe again. Preferably handmade - in Europe - and designed for the northern hemisphere. I¨ll pay for it. Don't worry.
These shoes exceed my expectations. The sole conforms like a second skin. The contoured bottom encourages the rolling gait that I have adopted to reduce heel impact. They felt perfect after 1 hour. I've been wearing them for 6 weeks as my all-day shoes.
The soles have enough body to help me stand for long periods on flat floors, and to resist the impact of sharp rocks on hikes. They grip very well on rock and snow, but they release snow, dirt and gravel much better than typical lugs. The mid-height is fine for wet snow and mud when I wear gaiters. I'm glad I didn't get the high version.
I took a 2 1/2 hour off-trail hike on wet snow and steep broken rock, with wool socks and gaiters. My feet were cold before I began but they warmed up as I went. The leather was moist to the touch afterward, but the insides were dry. After the leather dried, it looked like new except for some scratches that are barely visible.
Besides hiking, I can wear them to town, do my business, do my weight training, and look good at a fine restaurant, all on the same pair of shoes. When I get home, I don't want to take them off. I call that a bargain.
I got the same size as my Vibram Five Fingers. They fit perfectly with medium socks or thick socks for rough hiking. For thin or no socks, I would want one size smaller. What else? I have plenty of toe room for my wide feet. They are easy to get on and off. They are very light and well made. I'm glad I searched around!
Great shoes for winter. Waterproof, have lots of grip in snowier conditions. They look fantastic (I have dark brown).
I'm giving them two stars simply because they require some unusually intense breaking-in. I've been preemptively putting on moleskin to protect my heels from the very rigid backs in these, since they drew blood on their first use (a 15min walk to the gym, with socks that were too thin). Hoping they'll improve with continued use.
They have a poor fit and lack the feel of the other vivo shoes.Customer service was very poor and they refused to honour the original discount on a possible replacement.Basically I,m out $30 with no shoes.I would only buy from this site if you have tried a model that works .Otherwise you will be paying extra costs for shipping and be disappointed
Be warned. These shoes are very uncomfortable and they have a thick sole which is not proprioceptive. The customer service is.very poor .If you want to return shoes you are out shipping both ways which amounts to about $30 and you get nothing in return.
Fernando the manager is not willing to work with you to get an exchange at the same discount you buy the original shoes at. From now on Iwould not buy from these guys but from online shoes or Zappos who will be fairer regarding exchanges and returns.
