The practical reality of the biomechanics of barefoot running

February 18, 2013 by Jamie Page

Here's a crash course in barefoot biomechanics from Lee Saxby. Lee discusses the practical reality of the biomechanics of barefoot running and the science that underpins skilful movement and natural human locomotion. Whilst at the same time acknowledging the importance of the story tellers of barefoot running, like the Barefoot Teds and the Chris McDougalls who deal with the emotional side of barefoot running.
Saxby goes into more detail about kinetics and kinematics and their importance on human movement as well as the role proprioception plays. He talks through the significance of Daniel Lieberman's recent research, the three forms of human locomotion; walking, running and sprinting as well as the motor skill milestones of human development.
