Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you prefer insoles in your shoes or not, this is a very personal preference. If it is cold outside, you will definitely notice the difference by putting in a pair of our Thermal Insoles.

Whether you chose to keep them in on a daily basis is up to you. You tend to get a more barefoot experience if you remove your insoles, but no one’s watching so the decision is yours. Learn more here (Learn more ‘link to attached page for thermal and puncture resistance)

Each shoe will specify on its product page if it comes with our performance insole, everyday cork insole or our Thermal insole. They are also available to buy separately.

The majority of our Leathers are now sourced from Pittards PLC and come from free roaming cows in Africa. You can find out more about the leather we use by visiting our SUSTAINABILITY page.

We recommend using natural products where possible for cleaning and weather protection. Construction methods and materials vary across styles and we would recommend using soapy cold water rather than a washing machine for our performance shoes.

Products such as Nikwax for leather is great!

We make a range of shoes with different soles so you can ‘live’ barefoot in the city and in nature. Every shoe LETS YOUR FEET DO THEIR NATURAL THING with environment specific grip, upper features and materials. We’ve got you and your kids feet covered for exercise, off-road and everyday with as little sole as possible.

Currently, we produce our shoes all over the world, from China and Cambodia, to Ethiopia and Portugal. We only work with factories who we believe can offer us the best possible construction, but who also follow our company code of conduct on human rights. Please read our Code of Conduct for more information.

Our shoes have a patented puncture resistant layer that has up to 5x the puncture resistance of other minimal shoe brands out there. Sadly, it is not possible to make them puncture proof and maintain the barefoot flexibility and feeling.

Getting barefoot to the world means that our products must be both well-made and affordable. We offer a range of products, at a range of prices forcing us to produce in a number of locations. One way we try to reduce transportation is to cluster the supply chain as much as we can; making short distances from supplier to factory to port (Common in China). Of shipping methods, ocean and rail are the most efficient and least harmful but tend to take much longer. This is another factor in why we only produce two seasons per year.

things can go wrong. We offer all our customers a 6-month sustainable guarantee on all shoes purchased from Vivobarefoot ltd. If you have experienced unusual ‘wear and tear’, a fault on your shoe, or it has not held up as it should. Please let us know. If you have purchased directly from us within the last 6 months, just show us your proof of purchase, and we would be happy to get a replacement pair out to you.

Due to the popularity of styles, it is not always possible to replace your style with the same piece. However, our customer care team will do their best to ensure you have a new style which will be fit for purpose. Please contact us on 44 (0) 207 048 0600 to resolve any shoe faults.

In the interest of ensuring the same fault does not occur to anyone else, we will usually ask you to send photos of the style, and in some cases to send them back to us. That way, we can work on further testing to prevent anything happening again in the future.

The weight of each style of shoe will be given on the individual product pages in grams*. Remember, we pride ourselves on having lightweight, flexible shoes, so you might be pleasantly surprised with how light they are!

*All our weights are given for our sample sizes, Men’s size 42 and Women’s size 37. Sizes larger or smaller may fluctuate slightly.

Yes, but not for all of our shoes!

MAIN LINE – for the majority of our shoes we can’t offer a repair service, but if you are experiencing any faults then please get in-touch and we will honour our 6-month guarantee. (if purchased directly from Vivo or one of our 3rd party retailers). As long as you have proof of purchase, and we would be happy to get a replacement pair out to you.

HAND CUT – we have dedicated shoe repair partners in all parts of the world.

To transform your Hand Cut shoes to their former glory, we will re-sole them, with appropriate Blake or Stichdown methods, using original outsoles from our Portugal Factory. We’ll fit new laces, polish and re-finish them, and send them back to you looking almost like new.

To arrange a repair*:

  1. Visit the VIVOBAREFOOT Experience Store in London's Covent Garden with your shoes and original receipt.  The store will take payment and send your shoes away for repair.
  2. Send your shoes to the store and we'll take care of everything else. Please call 44 (0) 20 7379 5959 to arrange a repair and make payment.

*Please note, unless faulty, this is a chargeable service

Unfortunately, we produce many different types of shoes so we are unable to stock additional laces for the products. If you receive your shoes with a faulty lace, we will of course replace the pair, but we are unable just to send spare/replacement laces on request. Although our laces are selected to perform and look damn good - any laces will work and a little customised lace selection will set your feet apart from the rest of the other barefootters!

FLEXIBLE SHOES - At VIVOBAREOOT we are committed to giving you as little shoe as possible while providing your feet with all the grip and protection you would expect from a pair of VIVOBAREFOOT shoes. Making soft, thin, flexible shoes that last longer and still allow for natural foot function is our unique challenge.

LESS IS MORE - With less materials, thinner soles and complete flexibility; a huge amount of stress is put on the shoes during wear. This means we have to use the best materials and most considered shoe making process we can lay our hands on.

WE PAY MORE FOR LESS - In our China factories, it is common for shoe productions lines to make up to 3500 pairs per day. Our soft, thin, flexible shoes are a lot harder to make which limits us to below 1000 pair per day due to the level of shoe making and craftsmanship in each and every pair. We are a small company, with small orders and difficult to make shoes with industry defining quality standards.

Yes, you can. In the same way as insoles, a lot of this comes down to personal preference. If you are not used to wearing socks, then there is no need to wear them with our shoes. However, if you do still want to keep them on, we would recommend a pair of lightweight, non-restrictive socks that may stop any friction and can sometimes help with moisture wicking, preventing sweat and stinky shoes.

We do make every effort to maintain a healthy supply of stock throughout to seasons. This has been a constant topic of debate amongst customers and within the 4 walls of Vivobarefoot. The simple answer is; we are going to!

In the past, we have launched junior sizes of some of our most popular ‘hero’ styles. Unfortunately, the ranges were not very successful, and we were left with a lot of overstock. The good news is, a new range of junior styles will be launching in Spring/Summer 2017, we just need to make sure they are perfect for you.

As with most companies, you may find that your size varies depending on which style of shoe you choose. The main reason for this tends to be down to the materials used, and the actual construction. You may find our Handcut Leather collection seems slightly smaller, this is normally down to the initial tightness of the leather, compared to a flexible mesh running shoe.

Insoles! If you take the insoles out, you find they will play a large part in terms of the room your foot has. If you shoe feels a little tight, remove the insole and you will likely have the right size for your foot.

Yes, we would suggest you use the same principle with our shoes. We call this ‘the rule of thumb’. Your toes should have enough room to wiggle and move. This is especially important when you are running. If you can get your thumb in-between your end toe and the front of the shoe, it should be the right size. Please click here to refer to our size guide.
