I love trails because they engage your mind as well as your body! You have to concentrate on every step, which is much more challenging. Plus I am running the South Downs Way (100 miles) barefoot for Macmillan Cancer Care next year and the Neo Trails would come in very handy for the rough sections!

There is nothing like running on trail surrounded by trees whizzing by and the feel (and sound) of gravel below you as you breath in fresh air.

Trail running is my fountain of youth. When I’m on a trail, I feel like a child again, completely relaxed and at ease. No matter how tired or stressed I am going into the run, I’m always refreshed at the end of it!

  5. Dr Joe Dragnosky

I’m a retired psychologist who enjoys trail walking in the Denver foothills. With the changing weather conditions here I need a shoe with a barefoot feel that has a good grip on dirt, mud, and snow as well as being water resistant and breathable. The Neo Trail seems to fit the bill. I’d like to win a pair.

It’s all great — the sounds and sights, the goose bumps I get in a chilly breeze, my rasping breath at altitude, the whiteness that surrounds me when I’m running in a cloud

Because you can leave the car behind and get out to explore all the places that you usually never get to see. Places become more than just names on a map. It really enables you to feel like you are part of the bigger world and to wonder at the marvel of nature. When out on a trail I always like to think about the fact that people have been travelling these paths for 1000′s of years. An enjoyable fantastic way to escape the trappings of modern life!

I adore running; I use the time to relax, think things through, de-stress, recharge my batteries and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cornwall. I love not plan where to go and trying out new routes. Being a working mother of three it is also quite self indulgent and very peaceful. My favourite thing to do :)

Trail walking allows me to experience the intense feeling of connecting with nature and helps me to make sense of the world because I can connect and identify with the plants, animals, mountains, streams and trees that I share the universe with. It allows me to optimise more movement into everyday life and makes me feel energised, invigorated and ready for anything.

I don’t do running anymore I do jogging instead!! At my time of life it is a little slower but just as enjoyable. I always go first thing in the morning when the lanes are quiet and the countryside is at its best. I use the time to work out any problems I might have and I find the whole process very theraputic. I usually arrive home tired but ready to face the world again.

  27. Papamoa99

Trail walking or running is the only way to get away from it all and re-evaluate what is important in life. Gives you time to think and relax and absorb nature at its best. Weather is never bad, it only creates variable challenges.

Being outdoors helped lift my spirits after being diagnosed with a arthritis which shattered all my future plans: I plan to run, walk and hobble just as long as I can! And then I’ll crawl.

  29. Anne

I love running because I discovered it in my later life, and if has helped to beat diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure – I also love it because I feel free when I am running, particularly in my wonderful Vivobarefoot shoes… I really do feel weightless! When i was a child I was called “Ellie” by other children because I was a trifle podgy; now when I run I feel like a graceful horse not an elephant! I also get to actually feel the earth beneath my feet,; feel the elements around me …. rain, sun, wind; and best of all I get to see all the wonderful countryside around me. Running has transformed me and my life.

maybe a fellow runner I may meet.
A 10 mile jog in my favourite place,

Trail walking is my favourite way to reconnect to the natural world. I remember to breathe deep the rich sweet silences, to become rooted deep deep down into the warm, soft earth, and then each step sweeps away stress and anxiety, and refills me with energy. Colours become vibrant, my sense of place in the universe is affirmed, and all that small stuff ceases to matter.

Because the stage we play on from nine to five is but a shadow of the grander theater we step out into when we move from concrete to dirt. The theater of the trail dispatches the noise of expectation and busyness, trading those things in for the quiet rustle of movement for a much greater cause. It is here where energy is expelled for a different kind of profit and where heart rates rise for all the right reasons.

Running on streets, my head throbs from the constant roar of traffic, my lungs burn as I choke down the smoggy, chemical ridden air, and my body aches as each step slams onto the pavement. But trails. Running on trails is so liberating. The only sound is the lazy babbling of a nearby creek, the air is crisp and fresh, rejuvenating my entire body, and with each step the intense worries and fears of the day slowly fade away. What’s not to love about getting outdoors & into the ‘bush’ as we call it. That is my element..my happy place. I love the fact that my feet can take me places that no car can!.. Like the Rees-Dart track or the Routeburn track in New Zealand.. sublime! Getting back over to NZ in January and hoping to walk in barefoot shoes. :-)

I’m an older runner. Growing up in rural Texas, I mostly ran barefoot until I moved to a city after college. I did run at school, but just in whatever shoes I had on. Then I took up running as an adult in the early 70s and bought state of the art running shoes. It was then I developed knee problems. I have always craved a thin, light shoe that would allow me the sensation of running barefoot. with some protection from the elements such as asphalt gravel and broken glass . Sadly, it is just not realistic to run barefoot on city street and urban trails. Now that the barefoot movement is really here, I’d like to try these shoes and see if they give me what I’m looking for.

I love trail running because it is natural to be running out in the woods and fields, immediately connected to Mother Earth. It’s soothing.

My cousins & I grew up adventuring on trails thanks to long Philippine summers. Today, rural urbanization is wiping them out so I’ll run as much as I can before it’s too late.

Trail running is dynamic. Nothing like dominating the terrain, putting miles of savage wilderness under your feet. Add the barefoot factor, and the incredible ground feel has you consciously conquering every pebble and twig. Awesome.

Often on the trails I feel like a Tolkin character going on an adventure. Running in minimalist shoes brings me that much closer to being a barefoot Hobbit.

I love trail running because it is the only time when i can actually breathe. On the trail, you can really taste the oxygen as it leaves the plants. When you are running you are working really hard to take in air, and when you are on the trail, it becomes easier. You really become connected with nature, from your feet hitting the dirt, to the life-giving oxygen hitting your lungs from the trees.

I am surrounded by mono-culture forestry, by walking there I can feel more compassion for the slave trees that cover our hills in a dark green quilt and grow to make our loo-paper and match-sticks. Occasionally I get to explore native woodlands too, what a gift!

Runnning on road is unnatural. You need to go off-road, you have to feel the surface bellow you, the greatest road that exists-trail. Once you go off road, you never go back on road:)

I love running trails. I find it meditative because I can’t zone out for even a second or I’ll eat dirt. The terrain demands absolute attention and requires so much concentration the I have no choice but to leave everything else in life behind. I feel as though I can out-run my problems and have often found more solutions and peace through trail running than anywhere else.
