Raddisshme Design House (Terra Plana's affiliate design company) has won a new contract working with global streetwear fashion label Diesel
Terra Plana were delighted to receive the award for Best Ethical Footwear Retailer of the Year at the prestigious industry event Drapers Footwear Awards 2008, in association with Gore. The event was held at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel, London on Thursday 8th May. This year there were a record number of entries, making the competition tougher than ever before, so it was a real achievement to pick up this sought after award.
Here’s what Drapers said about us in the Winners’ Brochure:
“An obsessive attention to detail in terms of design and product lifecycle marks Terra Plana out as the exemplar of ethical footwear. Its use of innovative materials including recycled foam footbeds and Latex support this company’s focus on sustainability. Never one to rest on its laurels, Terra Plana constantly pushes the boundaries of ethical footwear. Having developed various concepts for its brands – it offers ‘recycled’, ‘health’ and ‘efficient’ product categories to name but a few – Terra Plana is now storming ahead with plans to introduce brand ambassadors and guest bloggers on its website. With its niche brands including Terra Plana, Vivo Barefoot, Worn Again, Dopie, Trip Clip, Soul Of Africa and Po-Zu, the Terra Plana style is eco-friendly, chic and comfortable. More stores and international franchises should help secure its place as the leading ethical footwear retailer.”
Due to extraordinary demand we have sold out of Vivo Barefoot in the USA. We are furiously making more shoes and will have more Vivo Barefoot available for our friends over the pond to buy on-line soon. Please be patient – it's worth it!
Steve O'Brien is a popular Radio Presenter in New York, and after trying his first pair of Vivo Barefoots, this is his glowing report:
"Well I can't say I'm shocked, but I AM surprised at how comfortable these shoes really are from day one. Walked across Central Park – grass, pavement etc – no problems.
The Vivo Barefoot shoes make me feel like a kid again and make my feet and legs walk more naturally. I had no break-in challenges and was reluctant to take them off my feet.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful creation and please let me know how I can help spread the word – in addition to my radio show and blog. My feet, my back, my entire body thanks me for wearing these terrific shoes!"
Exclusive Japanese shoe boutique ‘Shoe Bar’ is running a Dopie promotion for the whole month of May in its 5 stores across Japan. The window displays and all of the posters in store are about Dopie, and staff members will be wearing Dopies everyday for the whole month.
Think On Your Feet
For the month of May 2008, TERRA PLANA will offer a £10 discount to every customer who brings in an old pair of unwanted shoes in store to be recycled – all brands are welcome.
In the UK alone, over 330 million pairs of new shoes are purchased each year with a similar amount going to landfill or the incinerator.
In total, 25.5 million tones of household waste is collected each year in the UK, just under 27% of this is recycled or composted.
UK recycling currently saves between 10 – 15 million tones of greenhouse gases each year, this is equivalent to taking 3.5 million cars off the road.
TERRA PLANA is working with THE EUROPEAN RECYCLING COMPANY to lower the amount of shoes that are sent to landfill. The unwanted shoes will be collected from the TERRA PLANA stores in London by THE EUROPEAN RECYCLING COMPANY, who will then sort through them and sell the re-usable footwear on to Third World countries. The shoes are then locally refurbished and resold at affordable prices within those local areas. In addition to reducing the amount of footwear sent to landfill & supplying communities with much needed footwear, this scheme is also providing a means of earning a living in countries where employment opportunities are sparse.
The locations of our participating stores are as follows:
64 Neal Street
124 Bermondsey Street
