"Sustainable shoe making is barefoot shoe making, our paths are made by walking them"
– Galahad Clark, VIVOBAREFOOT Managing Director
Our MD, Galahad Clark, was invited to address this year's Copenhagen Fashion Summit
and give a talk Sustainably Fashion and the shared visions of industry, using VIVOBAREFOOT
as his subject. The Summit is the world's largest and most important conference on sustainability and CSR in the fashion industry. As the fashion industry is one of the most polluting and socially challenged industries, more than 1000 key industry stakeholders, of Galahad was one, were invited to identify new opportunities and forward-looking solutions for the global fashion industry.
Here at VIVOBAREFOOT we have a strong legacy of sustainable fashion
, in all aspects of our business; design, production, and operations. Inheriting our core business principles from Terra Plana, we’re continuously re-evaluating the way we do things and always striving to improve our design and processes.
The vast majority of our materials are eco-friendly and our collection is becoming increasingly vegan, we use recycled meshes for upper materials and where we do use leathers we ensure that our tanneries use minimum chrome in the tanning process. Also a large number of our super-thin, puncture-resistant soles
are made from recycled rubber.
Through good design and careful production we ensure that we employ innovative techniques which minimise the number of components and the amount of stitching and gluing of shoes. We make sure the process of making our barefoot shoes is as simple and efficient as possible; reducing the resource and labour intensity usually associated with making shoes. Minimising the number of components also has the advantage of making shoes easier to be broken down and recycled at the end of their life.
"All our shoes are lightweight, so apart from feeling good on the wearer’s foot, we manage to reduce the impact of product being shipped around the world."
– Francisca Amaral, Supply Chain Manager
Finally, VIVOBAREFOOT create products that hopefully are both durable as well as a joy to wear, meaning they will not end up in landfill after a few months.
Our Sustainable Guarantee
is in place to help us understand what we’re doing well and what we need to improve by empowering our customers to give us constructive feedback on our products.
