BREATHO TRAIL AND NEO TRAIL ON A RUN ACROSS SOUTH AMERCIA
March 21, 2013 by Kat Stawowy
On 28th July 2012, David & Katharine began an epic journey to run the length of South America, the equivalent of over 200 marathons in a year, through some of the most awe inspiring and biologically rich ecosystems on earth.
They started from Cabo Froward, the most southerly tip of the continent and and are running towards the Caribbean Sea of Venezuela. They are fulfilling a dream expedition to run the length of the South America unsupported for the continent's wild places.
The challenge for David & Katharine is to complete the route in a year, whilst pulling all their expedition gear and using a minimalist running technique. They are both equipped in VIVOBAREFOOT shoes which help them to defeat world’s toughest terrains:
“We’re now 3000 miles into our challenge to run the length of South America, for its wildplaces and wildlife, whilst pulling our trailer with all our kit behind us. Our Neo Trails took us through the snow and ice of a Patagonian winter and our Breatho Trail have eaten back the miles in the furnace of central Argentina. We’re now a hair’s breadth from the Tropic of Capricorn and the Bolivian border, Amazon here we come!”
But 500miles is not only about running. David and Katherine have an ambitious plan to inspire and connect the people and places they meet to their online community. They use the latest technology to achieve a greater and more tangible understanding of the ecosystem services provided by south America’s vast wild areas. They want to show how we are all affected by them and how we, in turn, are affecting them.
