Terra Plana, a brand cultivated on ethical values, sustainable production and artisan design are branching out. Their new mission – recycling disused stores.
‘Terra Plana pop up store one' is taking up temporary residence on the site of a former sandwich store in the heart of Spitalfields. Launching to an unsuspecting clientele, those in search of a lunchtime snack are now presented with an imaginative use of the site – a contemporary shoe store brimming with product from Terra Plana and its sister brands, Vivo Barefoot, United Nude and Soul of Africa.
In the spirit of sustainability the interior comprises of recycled French oak railway sleepers carved to create beautiful shelves and counters and antique school benches offer an interesting alternative to typical shoe store seating.
The store frontage is all glass providing an uninterrupted view into the store and offering passers-by the opportunity to view the Terra Plana experience at any time of the day. Over the stores eight-week life the window will constantly evolve to showcase new work from a host of designers whose interest in innovative, yet sustainable design is key to Terra Plana's ethos.
The first installation is by the East London Design Bureau a collective established in 2008. Their window piece ‘ The Light Trumpet Prototype' is an answer to a very straightforward demand – to draw attention to the new, 'pop-up' concept shoe shop. They believed that if the shop could decide which shoe was the most beautiful and exciting they can use the trumpet to focus all attention onto that shoe. This bold strategy required a bold object: one that attempts to blast this most beautiful shoe onto the street through the power of light, whilst providing the shop with an identity that may be remembered by passers-by later on.
Please join us over the next eight weeks to showcase the latest our brands have to offer, and be privy to special discounts exclusive to this location and join in with a host of activity centered from the store.
