Paddle Round the Pier has come around again and this year Terra Plana decided to join in with the fun.
Paddle Round the Pier was founded in 1996 by Dave ‘Sandals’ Samuel to raise money for charity and provide a social gathering for surfers alike. The free two day charity event takes place on Brighton beach at The Hove Lawns, raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, Surf Relief & the RNLI Lifeboats. The event takes place on the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd where there will be a huge variety of land and sea based extreme sports exhibitions and demonstrations, two days of music and a retail village to fulfill a great weekend at the beach for families, thrill seekers and plenty of smiley faces. This year offered an overload of splashy fun for every one, with a record breaking 50,000 people expected to visit, making Paddle Round The Pier the largest free beach festival in Europe.
Where do we come in? Well, we designed and built a raft in the shape of the VIVOBAREFOOT Ultra to take part in ‘Paddle Something Unusual’. Amongst pier to pier swimming races, Canoe racing and the SLSGB Ocean Ski British Championship 20 mile race, there’s the Paddle Something Unusual event for those who like to take themselves a little less seriously. In this event, social groups and businesses fashion the most ridiculous thing they can out of anything that will float and paddle around the West Pier for the wildest and whackiest race you’re ever likely to encounter. Previous entrants have tried with a crane, a plane, an iceberg and a wild west wagon, and this year we turned up in an Ultra, ready to walk on water.
We set up in the Paddle Village where customers were able to try on a pair of our VIVOBAREFOOT Ultras, Achilles or Dopies, test them out on our pressure pads, and have any of their questions answered.
This simply could not have gone under way had it not been for the massive input from the volunteers, friends and generous donations of materials we received from various businesses. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for the help and support offered. We at Terra Plana would like to welcome those who pitched in to a 25% discount on any full priced item in store as a token of appreciation and respect for those hard working and charitable hearts that just keep giving.
