The Desert Ultra, powered by VIVOBAREFOOT
November 19, 2013 by Jamie Page
The inaugural Desert Ultra sees the beginning of VIVOBAREFOOT officially partnering Beyond the Ultimate as main sponsor of their series of Ultra Marathons.
We're teaming up with Beyond the Ultimate, who organise the Ice Ultra, Jungle Ultra, Mountain Ultra and Desert Ultra, as we believe they're pushing adventure racing to the limit and we want to show how humans and our shoes can be a part of this adaptation and evolution. It's a great platform for us to push our shoes to the limit and gain insight from the strongest athletes and toughest terrains around the world.
The Desert Ultra marathon is under way. The 250km course is set in the dry heat of the Namib Desert, provides a phenomenal challenge to those who are willing to take it. Beginning close to the magnificent Spitskoppe Mountains, the runners will experience the hostile nature of the Desert traveling 98km during the first two stages alone. As the race progresses through stretching grasslands, and pushing relentlessly through the rolling sand dunes and cross the Ugab River, an underground river flowing above the surface only a few days a year, all to the majestic background of a volcano and mountain ranges. With temperatures reaching 35°C it isn't just the distance and sand dunes that will make it one of the toughest Ultras in the world.
