To launch next season’s new, exciting performance range we travelled to Bantham for a photoshoot, showing our performance products in action in various terrains.
We spent 3 days staying at the Clark’s family home, exploring the beautiful Devon countryside and Lee Saxby (our barefoot running guru), was there to train us. We perfected our barefoot running technique on trails, fells, beaches and even in water! We really put these shoes through their paces!
Nick Hopper, our photographer, captured the new products in action and took some amazing shots. We also produced a video with RCA graduate, Chris Tirrell. We clung onto rocky edges, high up, to capture some of the footage and sank into thick marshes to ensure we got great footage to highlight the versatility and durability of our performance products.

“Changing the running world, one odd look at a time” – BRS
The first International Barefoot Running Day (IBRD) is happening this Sunday, May 1, 2011.
VIVOBAREFOOT is proud to announce that we are officially supporting IBRD. To mark the event, the Barefoot Runners Society has coordinated local running events all over the world. To be part of the great day and for more details in your area, check the Barefoot Runners Society website.
IBRD is a grassroots movement designed to promote barefoot running as a healthy and viable way to run, which we (VIVOBAREFOOT) are all for. Most of the events are 1k or 5k Fun Runs to encourage everyone to be involved. Be sure to check back in with us after your events on Facebook and Twitter to tell us your stories and share your pictures! You’ll be celebrating the day among thousands of other barefoot runners from around the world.
Whether you’re new to barefoot running or a seasoned veteran, we encourage you to have a look at our FREE eBook; Proprioception: Making Sense Of Barefoot Running. Written by our barefoot running expert, Lee Saxby, it will take you from the basic barefoot movement milestones, all the way to correct form while running as nature intended – barefoot.

Professor Daniel Lieberman Interview from vivobarefoot on Vimeo.
Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University, Daniel Lieberman talks to VIVOBAREFOOT about, amongst other things, running barefoot.
If you haven’t done so already read Dan Lieberman’s barefoot study, published in Nature: “Foot strike patterns and collision forces in habitually barefoot versus shod runners”
Dr. Lieberman and his colleagues spent years looking at the evolution of man. In particular at his capacity to run and potential history as ‘persistence’ or endurance hunters, capable of running animals to exhaustion as they hunted their prey.
The central ideas is that
“as ancient man left the trees and the jungle, he adapted and became more of a runner than a climber. Many adaptations and changes took place, including, but not limited, to changes in the lower leg and foot.” Michael Sandler from Runbare.com summarises ”
In his latest study, Dr. Lierberman and his colleagues looked at the difference between barefoot runners and shod runners to understand the differences in form, efficiency, impact, and to try and better understand how we evolved into the bipedal runners we are today.”
